Be Safe on the Roads as the Season Starts

Over the next few weeks we will start to see the car transport trailers dropping off vehicles for the snowbirds as they start to arrive at their home for the winter. We all know what that means – more traffic on the roads. That is why it is imperative that we all use extra caution while we’re out driving ourselves and especially our clients to where they need to go.

Here’s a few reminders that will help ensure we’re all safe on the roads this season:

  • Do not use your cell phone while driving. If you need to take a call, pull over to the side of the road. And never, ever text while driving. Taking your eyes off the road for just one second can have dire consequences.
  • Use extra caution at intersections. The most common reason for crashes is a failure to yield, especially when making a left turn.
  • Be aware of school zones and follow the 20mph speed limit when those lights are flashing. School is in session and there are lots of kids walking and riding bikes.
  • Be sure to stay visible. It’s not uncommon for accidents to occur on the road because drivers don’t see each other. To minimize the risk of this happening to you, make sure your vehicle is as visible as possible at all times. This includes using your headlights and turn signals.
  • Slow down when driving in the rain. Florida has a lot of rain which can lead to slippery roads. Rain mixed with debris on the road can lead to hazardous driving conditions. Hydroplaning occurs when the water builds between the tires and the road which can impact steering, braking or accelerating.
